  • It’s important to create an environment where it’s Ok to make mistakes. Mistakes are part of learning.
  • Encourage your team to come up with new ideas. Make them feel like you’re peers where everybody has a voice and every voice matters.
  • Set your clients’ expectations upfront that whilst you are their partner for strategy, brainstorming, and working through the plan, they’re going to have to work with your team on the day to day execution and customer service.
  • You can’t be the funnel in your business. You can’t be the person that’s stopping things from happening because you want to be in control or because you haven’t set the expectations of your clients.
  • As a business owner, you’ve got to do some things that won’t like doing.
  • Make sure that you’ve got a strategy behind all the money that you’re spending. Understand who your customers are as well as the marketing skills and techniques that can allow you to make decisions that are best for you rather than what is being sold to you.
  • You won’t know where you’re going if you don’t have a plan to get there. It’s difficult to set a goal if you don’t have the steps to get to it.
  • A logo is just a small element of your brand.
  • Your brand is the customer experience. Map out all those touchpoints so that you can identify the areas that can take you to the next level and enable you to stand out.
  • The marketplace is noisy, crowded, and chaotic. If you are saying 5 adjectives as all of your competitors, then you’re just drowing in the sea of this noise.
  • Identify the touchpoints where you can really elevate and stand apart, then create a customer experience that is unique to your value proposition. That’s where you can shine.
  • A business plan prevents you from getting distracted by all the shiny objects. It gives you the safety rails to keep you on your lane and help you stay focused on your goals.
  • Your 12-months business plan needs to be a living and breathing document that you evolve as you learn things.
  • It’s much less stressful to know that you have a plan as well as some actions steps that you are focused on rather than going through every day without no idea.
  • Little things have big impact. Everybody expect the big things. When you do a great job on the little things, people are likely to expect more excellence on your big endeavors going forward.
  • We are our own worst enemy as business owners. We believe our own hype and we’re not always realistic about situations because we don’t want to be. It’s important to allow ourselves the process of being real and not being so in love with our idea.

  1. #1 thing to be more innovative – Schedule time to brainstorm and learn how to do it by yourself.
  2. Best thing for new ideas – Map out your ideas. Create systems and processes around it. Make sure it’s going to be successful before you invest too much in it.
  3. Favourite tool for innovation – Trello, Teamwork, Dropbox, Loomly
  4. Keep project/client on track –  Set proper expectaions and create boundaries around that relationship. Look at everything you need to do in a particular month and assign it a point system.
  5. Differentiate – Talk to other business owners in different industries and craft those insights in a way that works for your business. Think out of the box. Be creative.

To Be a Leader

Failure is part of the journey. You are going to make mistakes and things will not always go the way you want. Embrace those things as learning, not as a failure. Understand your true WHY and be able to communicate that. Your WHY is what will keep you moving forward. Don’t give up.
